Yes, we all do at some point. Summer doesn't last forever, some of us wish it did for sure. I was/am not one of the people who live for the summer. I was getting bored every day during the last days of those great three months, I had nothing to do. I had finished all my summer work, and the video games had gotten old from 32 hours of playing it this summer. I wanted to do something, so I would go help Star get the school and fields ready for the 345 students coming for the first time, or returning for another great year at Fenn. I was so excited to go back to school that I had my back pack packed a week and a half before the first day. It is one of my favorite days of the year.
Moving on to the two new classes that we have as ninth graders, Global Studies and Biology. I absolutely LOVE Biology. I find it so interesting that how and when we grow is determined before we are born in our DNA. We will also create a virus that is resistant to anti-biotics, and spreads fast. I also like Global studies. We don't have much of a feel for it yet, but I bet we will after we come back from Camp Caribou.
This year, Fenn implemented a new iPad program which brings a one-to-one technology to everyone in the middle and upper school. Last year all the seniors would receive tablets, but the iPad can do so much more. The only important thing that we lose is the use of an actual keyboard instead of the virtual one on the IPads. Another great feature of the iPads is the ability to use your voice to write, which I have done in the past couple of sentences. Though, these are not gaming devices, they must be used for academic purposes during the school day. But we can use them anyway we like, with exceptions, before and after school. I think that the iPads will be very useful in our classes, but will serve as a distraction during free time.
I think that this will be a great year for all of the ninth graders, But as the oldest in the school, we need to use the time that we are given responsibly so that we don't lose them like some of the classes before us. I am very excited to get back into a schedule and routine, for I feel that I work better and more efficiently on a schedule.
With hard work comes triumph, but with anything less, you will fall short.
